Development

A new $10.6 million project would build 10 townhomes on Kansas City’s East Side — in the same neighborhood as the Workhouse Castle. The plan, called UNI Crescendo, would add 64 units to a wooded lot with 10 years of tax abatement. If approved, construction could begin by late spring. 🏘️ (CityScene KC)

Biz

Pipeline, a network of Midwest entrepreneurs based out of KCK, announced its inaugural Pathfinder cohort, and eight out of 12 are from the metro. The Pathfinder program offers those who have committed to their startups a year’s worth of resources + networking. Businesses include pet-based tech, like an app that connects dog owners. Metro-based Cargo Largo broke ground on its new Independence facility. The supply chain company, which employs ~500, will be headquartered along 33rd Street + Noland Road. Construction is expected to finish in spring 2023. 🚚

Drink

Transport Brewery in Shawnee tapped a new beer that benefits Court Appointed Special Advocates of Johnson and Wyandotte counties. Bootlegger is an “easy to drink” lager and will sell until all 70 gallons are gone. (KSHB)

The Chiefs’ season is over after a loss to the Bengals, 27-24. We appreciate all the ups this season, including a 1,000+ yard season from Travis Kelce, a 4,000+ yard from Patrick Mahomes, and needless to say, 13 seconds. 🏈 (Kansas City Star)

State

The Kansas Senate passed an economic incentive bill — the Attracting Powerful Economic Expansion Act — that aims at attracting a $4 billion business and over 4,000 jobs. The business is a mystery because the deal isn’t done yet. The bill will move to the House next before the governor’s office. (FOX4)

KC Scholars is awarding scholarships to adults over 24 who have completed 12+ hours of college credits but haven’t finished their degree. There are up to 126 adult learner scholarships up for grabs. Recipients will be chosen in early may. 💰 (Martin City Telegraph)

Dress to the nines. Sporting Kansas City announced christianMICHAEL’s Runway Review, an immersive fashion show coming to Children’s Mercy Park on Sat., Sept. 24. The evening will begin with a vendor showcase and premium bar + food selections. Then, 100+ models will show off looks from local and national designers.

Plan Ahead

Registration is now open for the ninth annual GEHA Field at Arrowhead 5K. Participants will race through the Truman Sports Complex before entering Arrowhead, running through the concourse and finishing under the lights on the field. The date is set for Apr. 22, with early bird registration ending Mar. 31. 👟
